I will win...

I would like to start by discussing the theme “Commitment made at an age of 13 and today I am a  Chartered Accountant”.

What the theme could signify, commitment, determination, courage, strong will power, arrogance, show off, desire for recognition and praise, sense of achievement and satisfaction, whatever it may be but in my eyes it is a magic of belief. Belief that “ I will win” and not  “I will probably lose”, belief that “I can do it” and not “I can’t”. Successful people are not superman. Success doesn’t require a super intellect. Successful people are just an ordinary folks who have developed belief in themselves and what they do. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief. Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big success. Remember this, “Too big ideas and big plans are often easier, certainly no more difficult than the small ideas and small plans”.
Achievement of a goal is not an end in itself; it is rather a new beginning, a beginning to face numerous challenges and hardships. I would like you to think about bamboo. Basically bamboo is flexible, flexible yet strong. It is not sufficient for it to be able to bend in just one direction, or not bend at all. However, what is flexible  has the real strength within and is hard to break. This is what you should aim for, because in the three dimensional world of Chartered Accountant’s profession in which you have entered or some of you are dreaming of is not some kind of a green house. It is a world where rain falls, wind blows and there are snow storms and period of drought.
Let’s focus our attention now on some of the specific ways to face this world:
·         Don’t  let tradition paralyze your mind, be receptive to new ideas and be experimental;
·         Ask yourself daily how can I do better;
·         Ask yourself how can I do more;
·         Practice asking and listening and you will obtain raw material for reaching sound decision;
·         Stretch your mind get stimulated, associate with people who can help you to think of new ideas, new ways of doing things, mix with people of different occupational and social interests;
·         Make your attitude your allies- Grow the “You are important” attitude, people will do more for you when you make them feel important, show appreciation at every opportunity, make your attitude your allies.
Grow the attitude of “I am activated”, Grow the attitude “Service First” and watch money will take care of itself. Give people more than they expect to get. Grow “positive attitude”, think positively, your subordinate will pickup right thinking only when you will show positive attitude towards your job each day, ask yourself  “Am I worthy in every respect of being imitated? Are all my habits such that I would be glad to see them in my subordinates?”
·         You are what you think you are – Have you ever wondered why an employee will consistently carryout the instructions of one superior but only grudgingly do what another superior request? You will observe some people receiving the “Hey Buddy” , “Oye” treatment while others receive like sincere and important “Yes Sir” treatment. Watch, you will observe some people command confidence loyalty and admiration while others do not. What is the explanation? It is distilled into one world “Thinking”. Thinking does make it so. Others see in us what we see in ourselves. We receive the treatment we think we deserve.
How you think determines how you act. How you act in turn determines how others react to you.

To gain respect of others, you must first think you deserve respect. The more respect you have for yourself, the more respect others will have for you. One can increase self respect and earn more respect from others by looking important. Remember your appearance. Never leave home without feeling certain you look like the kind of person you want to be. Dress right. You can’t afford not To! Dress right, it always pays, because you look important and it helps you to think important. Use clothing as a tool to lift your spirits, build confidence. An executive feels more like an executive when he is dressed like one. A woman feels more like going to a party when she is dressed for a party. A  soldier feels and think like a soldier when he is in uniform. Your appearance talks to you but also talks to others. It helps determine what others think of you.

There are a lot of people who have studied hard at school but who as times goes on become less discerning. On the other hand,  there are many who at first do not see so bright but later prove to be quite sharp. The result people produce reveal how they have trained themselves, intellectually since achieving the milestone in their academic carrier.

I sincerely hope that you are not limiting yourself and I truly believe that you become what you think you are. Progress steadily one step at a time, as if you were climbing steps or the rungs of a ladder one at a time. As you continue doing this, I guarantee that a path will open up before you and you will discover the self that  is always victorious and invincible.
